Relógios Omega empenhados em projectos ambientais na Indonésia

A Omega anunciou o seu envolvimento na iniciativa “Time for the Planet“, que incluiu dois projectos ambientais na Ilha Tanakeke e em Bahoi, na Indonésia.

Em parceria com o fotógrafo e ambientalista Yann Arthus-Bertrand e a GoodPlanet Foundation, a Omega empenha-se na protecção dos oceanos e dos ecossistemas subaquáticos, ajudando as pessoas que deles dependem mais financiando dois projectos a três anos focados na educação das comunidades locais, gestão da herança cultural da região e criando áreas marinhas protegidas.

Em 2012, a Omega produziu um documentário premiado, Planet Ocean. São 90 minutos dirigidos por Yann Arthus-Bertrand e Michael Pitiot. Estreou-se na Cimeira da Terra Rio+20 e passou depois em muitos eventos organizados pela marca relojoeira em todo o mundo, incluindo o Oceanário de Lisboa.

The project on Indonesia’s Tanakeke Island is based on advancing scientific knowledge and teaching the local population, including the younger generation, how to protect its natural resources. Following the aquaculture boom in the 1990s, Tanakeke Island lost 70% of its mangroves, greatly reducing the local biodiversity. Using a participative community approach, OMEGA and GoodPlanet aim to help regenerate the ecosystem and guide the community toward autonomous sustainable management of its island and its coastline.

Centred on respecting biodiversity, the three-year project in Bahoi, Indonesia encourages the protection of the coastal village’s ecosystems by creating a network of Marine Protected Areas that, in time, will be managed by the communities themselves. The goal of this project in the Northern Sulawesi region is to develop eco-tourism and to increase awareness among community members of the importance of their natural resources and how to live sustainably.
