Grupo Richemont adquire 100 por cento da Delvaux

O Grupo Richemont, líder mundial de Alta Relojoaria, anunciou a compra de 100% da Delvaux, casa belga de marroquinaria, a mais antiga do mundo, fundada em 1829.

O comunicado:

Richemont is pleased to announce that it has acquired 100% of Delvaux, the renowned Belgian luxury leather goods Maison, in a private transaction.

Established nearly two centuries ago in 1829, Delvaux is the oldest luxury leather goods Maison in the world. It has a unique heritage, expressed through the richness of its archives, and distinguishes itself through its exceptional savoir faire and creativity. In 1908, Delvaux was the first to file an official patent for a leather handbag and can thus be called the inventor of the modern luxury handbag.

Delvaux’s leather pieces are crafted by skilled artisans in its workshops across Belgium and France, and mostly sold across a highly qualitative network of 50 boutiques worldwide. Richemont’s acquisition will position Delvaux for its next stage of development, by enabling Delvaux to leverage the Group’s global presence and digital capabilities, to develop its omnichannel opportunities and customer engagement.

Philippe Fortunato, CEO of Fashion & Accessories Maisons, commented:

“Delvaux is an authentic European luxury leather goods Maison with strong heritage, distinctive savoir faire and exceptional manufacturing capabilities. The Maison’s rich archives and creative momentum over the last 10 years represent a solid foundation from which to grow the company for the long term, strengthening Richemont’s presence at the pinnacle of the leather goods category. We are delighted to welcome Delvaux’s management and teams to Richemont, and look forward to working closely with them to enable the Maison to reach its full potential under the Group’s stewardship.”

The transaction has no material financial impact on Richemont’s consolidated net assets or operating result for the year ending 31 March 2022. The results of Delvaux will be reported under the ‘Other’ business area.

Conclusão - será praticamente impossível seguir presencialmente os 3 eventos...

O comunicado do Time do Watches:

Time to Watches, the new watch event for creative and innovative brands, will take place in Geneva over 4 days, between March 30th and April 5th 2022. Located at the HEAD – Genève campus, exhibiting brands will be part of the most valuable face-to-face conversations between influential members of the watch community, all brought together in the same city.

HEAD – Genève, University of Art and Design, will host the event in Le Cube, a magnificent building that is part of Geneva's industrial heritage, and the flagship venue of its campus.

Situated in the heart of Geneva, halfway between Palexpo by the airport and the lakeside hotels, Time to Watches will host 50 exhibiting brands in an emblematic building which combines exhibition areas, a dedicated media room and open spaces for informal meetings and catering. Aimed at industry professionals - retailers, medias, influencers and VIPs - the 4-day event will be open for one day to enthusiasts from the general public.

In a market devoid of face-to-face meetings for far too long, the mission of Time to Watches is to strengthen links between key players across the watchmaking community, in the very heart of its capital city. It is also to build bridges with the academic and cultural world, hence the partnership with HEAD – Genève.

HEAD – Genève, University of Art and Design, offers Bachelor's and Master's courses in Fine Arts, Cinema, Interior Architecture, Space and Communication, Visual Communication as well as Fashion and Accessory Design. It has forged close links and significant collaboration with the local arts community and economy.

Since 2012, HEAD – Genève has been offering a unique Master’s course in Watch Design as part of the Fashion, Jewellery and Accessory Design Department. Students learn about watchmaking design, marketing and strategic challenges as well as trends and heritage issues related to the watchmaking industry.

« HEAD – Genève has always been a place open to the city and the world. Promoting a pedagogy rooted in the real world, we wish to offer our students every opportunity to confront the professional world. The Time to Watches event is precisely the kind of context where our students can find inspiration, networking and professional perspectives. »

– Jean-Pierre Greff, director HEAD – Genève.

« In the current context, our intention has always been to create an event that is relevant today and tomorrow, hence the synergy of our partnership with HEAD – Genève. We want to promote values of audacity and innovation in watchmaking by bringing together know-how, creativity and energy from watch brands, who all happen to be meeting on the same dates in the same city. »

– Marc Angebault and Christian Wipfli, co-directors of Time to Watches.

O comunicado:

The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie is continuing its transformation with the creation of the Watches and Culture Division, whose aim is to make watchmaking culture shine out around the world.

Since its creation in 2005, the aim of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) has always been to promote and share watchmaking excellence all around the world; it is now organised in two distinct divisions for this very purpose. The first division, Watches and Wonders, stages international events under the same name that are intended for both professionals and enthusiasts of beautiful watchmaking. These meet-ups are held in Geneva—always a major event—as well as Shanghai and Sanya in China, and in other countries. The second division, Watches and Culture, covers all the activities promoting watchmaking culture. It independently consecrates exceptional watches as artistic and cultural objects.

These core missions recently made waves with the inscription of watchmaking mechanics and the art of mechanics as part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO. This recent decision by UNESCO confirms the appropriateness of the FHH’s transformation into two independent divisions with distinct expertise. Watches and Culture intends to bring watchmaking culture to life through the creation of original works, education and networking for participants in the industry.

The activities of Watches and Culture can gain a new impetus thanks to the support of more than forty partner brands, including the most renowned Houses from the watchmaking industry, along with a circle of independent designers.

To mark this new beginning, Watches and Culture has created an original logo. Refined, minimalist and timeless, with its two words in the form of the hands on a watch connected by a hyphen, it symbolizes the bridges between the worlds of watchmaking and culture, leading to the concept of watches as an art form.

The first initiative taken by Watches and Culture is the launch of its Instagram account @watches__cltr, a new entry point that resolutely targets audiences that are not so familiar with the watchmaking world, but who are active on social media. At the crossroads between entertainment and information, this communication channel, along with its upcoming Chinese counterpart, makes it possible to discover the world of watchmaking from an original and dynamic angle for a decidedly younger and less knowledgeable audience.

At the same time, the Watch Essentials app is getting a makeover. Created in 2016, Watch Essentials has clearly proven its worth with nearly 20,000 downloads. The app’s educational content, which is spread over nine large chapters, guides users through discovering and familiarizing themselves with watchmaking through fun games and quizzes that everybody can enjoy. The content is being expanded as a new chapter about sustainable development is in production. This app is the perfect springboard between Instagram and the rest of the cultural offering of Watches and Culture.

With its first initiatives, Watches and Culture is filling its annual calendar with activities, to be revealed in full in the autumn. See you then!

Breguet Classique Double Tourbillon

Who but Breguet could have proposed such a project? It required a solid grasp of science as well as an optimistic streak. This specific set of circumstances resulted in a project, which its inventor named “Tourbillon.” The word is frequently misinterpreted and its astronomical meaning has long been forgotten.

According to the major dictionaries of the 19th century, among them Descartes and the Encyclopédie, the word referred either to a planetary system and to its rotation on a single axis, or to the energy that causes the rotation of the planets around the sun. This sense of the word is far from its modern meaning of “violent rotation” or “uncontrollable storm.” A man of the Enlightenment, Breguet thus chose a word that someone who observed the world before imitating it would choose. In this, he resembles the 18th century philosophers who considered watchmaking to be the creation of a microcosm. In fact, it is hard not to envision a tiny, tidily ordered constellation in this mechanism, which assembles the devices for regulation (balance spring) and transfer (escape wheel and lever) in a mobile cage that spins as constantly as any planet…
