According to Einstein's theory of relativity, time and space are unified into a single four dimensional structure called spacetime, and within this framework, a controversial but mathematically supported interpretation called the block universe theory suggests that the past, present, and future do not actually flow one after another the way we subjectively experience them. Instead, every moment that has ever happened or will ever happen already exists permanently, fixed within this four dimensional block, and our human perception of time moving forward, of a present moment constantly becoming the past while the future approaches, may simply be a limitation of human consciousness rather than a fundamental feature of reality itself. Under this interpretation, the version of you reading this sentence right now, the version of you as a child, and the version of you on the day you eventually die are all equally real and equally existing right now, at every point in time, simultaneously, with no version being more truly present than any other. Many leading physicists, including supporters of relativity's mathematical implications, take this interpretation seriously, even though it directly contradicts every single intuition human consciousness has ever developed about the nature of time, memory, and free will.
