"Based in the UK, Crosthwaite and Gavin have been friends for over a decade. Their love and passion for vintage Heuer has culminated in two books widely considered as the references for Heuer’s iconic Autavia and Monaco models: the first, “Heuer Monaco, Design Classic” and the second, “Heuer Autavia Chronographs 1962-85”. A third book dedicated to the Carrera model will be published by the duo in the spring of 2017.
"Illustrating the importance of the collection to be offered, many of the watches featured in these books will be offered during this thematic sale.
"Since its founding in 1860, Heuer was a specialist in the manufacture of chronographs. Robustly designed, purpose-built, and superbly styled, vintage Heuer timepieces appeal to both seasoned watch enthusiasts and ardent sports car aficionados. With the rise in published scholarship thanks to books such as those from Crosthwaite and Gavin, the greatness of the brand has been further uncovered in recent years. Accordingly, the Heuer collector community is larger and stronger than ever, with multiple, recent world record results for the brand’s watches achieved in sales such as the May 2016 thematic “START STOP RESET: 88 Epic Stainless Steel Chronographs” sale held by Phillips.
"The 49-piece collection comprises the iconic Autavia, Carrera, and Monaco models, including a complete, Ref: 1133B ‘Steve McQueen’ Monaco so called “no lume dial”; and a complete, new old stock example of one of the most coveted of all Monaco models, the ‘Dark Lord’ reference 74033N made in 1975.
"Finally, the very first example of a commemorative, limited edition Autavia model, number 1 of 1932, crafted by Swiss watch manufacturer TAG Heuer, will be presented at the 11 November auction. This special watch not only commemorates the 55th anniversary of the Autavia’s launch, but also celebrates the 85th birthday of Jack Heuer, the honorary Chairman of TAG Heuer, and the great-grandson of the brand’s founder, Edouard Heuer. The proceeds of the sale of this exclusive timepiece will be donated to the SAVE THE CHILDREN charity.
