Measurement of time in the past was related to the celestial motions. Morning, afternoon, evening, and
night are related to the presence or absence of the sun in the heavens. The measurements of years, months,
weeks, are based on earth’s yearly orbit around the sun. The use of units like seconds and minutes which are
radial angle measurements in geometry points toward the original connection of time measurements to radial
motion of astronomical objects across the sky.
