Da Mike Horn Team recebemos as últimas novidades sobre a Expedição Pangaea, uma volta ao mundo com fins ambientais e educativos, dirigida pelo explorador Mike Horn, apoiada pela manufactura relojoeira Officine Panerai, e a que podem concorrer jovens de todo o mundo:After having just completed a Young Explorer Program (YEP) in Malaysia in November 2009, the Mike Horn Team are now busy with the next Selection Camp in Switzerland.
16 young adults from 6 different continents arrived yesterday in Château-d'Oex, a small village situated in the Pre Alps of Switzerland.
The young adults are;
Reuben Foster, 18ans, Afrique du Sud / Monde Sitole, 19yrs, South Africa / Shu Ting Chen, 17yrs, China / Paridhi Rustogi, 14yrs, India / Mark Thompson, 16yrs, Australia / Maya Ivanova, 19yrs, Bulgaria / Dominic Parker, 18yrs, England / Lucie Knor, 16yrs, Germany / Manuel Löffler, 19yrs, Germany / Valentina Marzola, 15yrs, Italy / Pawel Chmielowski, 18yrs, Poland / Elena Kiseleva, 19yrs, Russia / Florence Beffa, 17yrs, Switzerland / Catherine Meyer, 20 yrs, USA / Conor O'Sullivan, 18yrs, USA / Maria Florencia Escudero, 17yrs, Argentina.
These youths are chosen from an international pool of young adults who have applied to join Mike Horn during his current 4 year environmental expedition. The 10 day Selection Camp will assess who will have the unique opportunity to continue on to join Mike Horn in India in January 2010, the next leg of the Pangaea Expedition.
Excitement runs high in Château-d'Oex as the young explorers get to know each other, Mike Horn and his team. A varied and challenging program awaits them as they will engage in intensive courses of technological, environmental, physical, medical and communication skills which will prepare the young adults to meet the challenges of the expedition and form them as ambassadors to communicate their experience to their families and peers around the world.
The 10 day camp will finish with a overnight, cross country raid that will challenge the youths both mentally and physically prior to the return to their respective countries all around the world.

EXPLORE - LEARN - ACT
Throughout his journey, employing YEP (the Young Explorers Program), young adults aged between 14-20, from every continent will be invited to join Mike Horn on various stages of his four-year expedition. These young adults will act as ambassadors by sharing and communicating their experience with others. They will be encouraged to bring their new visions, emotions and knowledge and to lobby other young adults throughout the world.
With specialists from various educational institutions and with the expertise of local guides, the young adults will learn about the flora and fauna and the cultures and traditions of the places they visit. While discovering nature, they will be helped to understand important environmental issues that affect the world today.
Environmental projects will be established in the countries that Mike Horn visits. Among the problems which will be focused upon are:
Water Projects – emphasizing the need to study and monitor the oceans, their bio-diversity and the impact humans have on them. The projects will also engage in ocean clean-ups, debris removal and the cleaning of coastlines and water sources.
Biodiversity Projects – studying, understanding and appreciating flora and fauna, and the importance of a balanced ecosystem, with roadmaps as to how to achieve these.
Social Community Projects – aiding and educating local communities on optimizing water supplies in villages, improving sanitary and hygiene conditions and becoming self-sustainable from an environmental perspective.
The Pangaea Expedition started on October the 18th when Mike Horn set sail from Ushuaia in Argentina on the first stage of his epic journey to Antarctica. His route will take him through Australasia, China, Russia, to the North Pole, then across Canada, North America and South America and back to Argentina.

Mike Horn, arguably the world’s greatest modern-day explorer in all terrains, conditions and climates has already undertaken exceptional feats of endurance and has shown determination and courage which have extended the boundaries of human achievement. Among his exploits have been Latitude Zero, an 18-month circumnavigation of the Earth around the Equator; the Arktos Expedition, a solo circumnavigation of the Arctic Circle lasting 27 months; the North Pole Winter Expedition, the first ever night expedition to the North Pole, starting from the northern most point of Russia and ending two months later at the North Pole; and the Himalaya Expedition, summiting two mountains higher that 8,000 meters without the use of additional oxygen.
